Engagement Shoot Philosophy
Happy 2011! I hope you all had a FABULOUS holiday!! Me? I’m enjoying some time abroad with Aaron and Ava and boy is it amazing. There really is nothing better than being together as a family, so I’m happy, very happy 🙂 and I hope you are too. I’ll have lots to share about my trip when I return but I wanted to take a moment check in.
At this time of year, engagements seem to be popping up everywhere, I mean let’s be honest, a proposal makes a pretty sweet Christmas present, right? And there’s definitely no better way to seal that New Year’s Eve Kiss. So… I figured it’s the perfect opportunity for me to share some of my engagement photo shoot philosophy with all of you. Aside from being a great reason to have some photos taken of you and your fiancé/fiancée to celebrate a special time in your life you’re always going to want to remember, there are some other reasons why I believe an engagement shoot is important:
1.) It’s a trial run with your photographer. Being the one behind the camera, I love having the opportunity to see what works for us, what doesn’t. Having an engagement shoot gives us the chance to get the feel of how we collaborate together.
2.) Better photos all around- Once we are able to connect and see how each other works the wedding photos will just be that much better! Sometimes its just seeing that a pose you think looks great isn’t working or experimenting and learning to trust your photographer. We’re all here to get great photos and the engagement shoot puts us all on the same page, and let’s us test the waters prior to the big day.
3.) It’s a chance to have fun and get creative, you can make it an expression of who you are! Throw a few ideas at me and I’ll run with them, I am up for anything, just say the word. And this, is my most important point.
An engagement shoot can be ANYTHING! Its all yours! Consider putting some thought into it or going for something you’ve always wanted to try! Have fun with it!
Incorporate something you love to do together…
Or include a treasured pet who is really more a part of the family…
Or we can shoot at a cool location with special meaning to you…
Like for my brother, Brendan, newly engaged to his AMAZING fiancé Laura, we are going to shoot at the NY Jets
Stadium because as Director or Pro Personnel it is such a huge part of life. And it will certainly make an AMAZING backdrop. And on that note I want to take a moment to say CONGRATS you guys!!!! I love you both and could not be more happy for you!! Laura-we look forward to welcoming you and Taylore into the family!! And i’m so excited to be shooting you guys in Feb Xoxo)
Finally, you can always go for that majestic, dreamy setting you have envisioned…
Whatever you decide don’t be limited by what you THINK an engagement shoot is because it really can be WHATEVER you would like to make it. It’s all you. There is no right or wrong answer. So be INSPIRED and go for it!! Hoping you have a wonderful week and I will check back in soon.
